ABSTRACT

On 4 September 2010, a 7.1 magnitude earthquake hit the city of Christchurch, causing damage to homes, businesses and infrastructure. on 22 February 2011, a 6.3 magnitude earthquake hit Christchurch, killing 185 people. During the following months I travelled back to Christchurch, my hometown, with my lecturers from The University of Auckland, to provide dance workshops in schools for students and teachers. While these early response projects helped dance to remain a positive activity in the community, over time I have become more interested in seeing how local dancers in Christchurch have adapted and responded to a volatile environment that continues to experience aftershocks.
