Two Drafts on Substitution [1906]

Paper 5 Consists of two manuscripts, 5a and 5b. The first, entitled “On Substitution”, is a long, rambling set of working notes in which Russell reexamines his basic assumptions about the foundations of logic. The second consists of several leaves at the end of 5a which have duplicate folio numbers but different text; the title of 5b is editorially supplied.
