ABSTRACT

Is it true that Africa had no history as one Oxford University professor declared in a speech in 1963? He said perhaps in the future, there will be African history, but for now, there is only the history of Europeans in Africa. Yet a few years ago, a cover story in a U.S. weekly magazine could unabashedly aver, “We are all Africans.” As we reflect on the professor’s assertion, we might also ask, “Is Egypt an African country?”
