ABSTRACT

In both the public and the private sectors, the American workplace faces two kinds of health challenges.1 First, there are acute health issues, short-term problems like colds and influenza, as well as reparable damages to the body like broken bones, ergonomics, and migraines. These certainly play havoc in the workplace. For instance, in 2009, as many as 26 million working-age Americans contracted the H1N1 virus-of which, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates, 213,000 were hospitalized and 12,720 died (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, “H1N1 Study,” 2010).
