ABSTRACT

Work, free time, and leisure are differentially distributed to individuals over the life cycle. During the formative stages of life-childhood, adolescence, and early adulthood-ample free time and leisure are available to the individual. Furthermore, during these stages free time and leisure carry none of the negative connotations of frivolity, idleness, and sinfulness that they often do during the adult years. Children and young adults are presumed to need considerable free time to grow, develop, and mature.
