ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews the structure, organisation and governance of golf in Australia and New Zealand. The major governing bodies responsible for governing amateur and professional golf are identified. The importance of sport governance is also examined, and its responsibility to club viability (numbers, size, country, metropolitan area), growing the game and events. Specifically, this chapter focuses on the role and function of these major governing bodies and how they align with national and state governing bodies in each country. It is important to note that the complex worldwide networks of golfing organizations described in other chapters of this book is also evident in Australasia.
