ABSTRACT

The chapter explores the non-juridical power of human rights in the climate change debate. By providing an argument for the incorporation of human rights into the global sphere as well as showing which normative guidelines can be deduced from human rights, the indications of normative guidelines for climate policy are analysed. This is relevant for decisions made about political policies, but it is also relevant for the influence of these norms on the public of a nation and their interest in both human rights and climate change. The potential voter power that this concept creates means that it could have an impact on political decision making at national and international levels.
