Should we understand moral duties with regard to the future as duties that are based on the human rights regime? First, the chapter provides argumentation concerning why it is necessary, from the conceptual presuppositions of human rights, to justify our duties by reference to the human rights regime. Second, it discusses some basic assumptions of the human rights regime. Finally, it argues that the concept of human dignity as the foundation of human rights necessarily includes obligations towards the future.
