ABSTRACT

External security of India is determined largely by the interplay of positive relations with major powers like the US, Russia, Japan, Britain, France, and Germany and adversarial attitudes of neighbours like China and Pakistan. It is unfortunate that strategic contradictions between India and China, on one hand, and India and Pakistan, on the other, are taking too long to resolve. However, the other powers have proved to be reliable strategic partners with whom multi-dimensional relationships are being forged within the parameters of respective interests.
