ABSTRACT
India’s intimate ties with countries of this region go back to the days of post-colonial period when they all struggled together to acquire a respectable identity and status in the international system. However, as many of these countries are now emerging as regional power houses or strategic flashpoints, it has become important for India to re-infuse these ties with contemporary imperatives like trade, counter-terrorism, nuclear cooperation, and so on.
