Imagine being at the theater. Focus on actors: you can feel them. Actually, you can smell them. Would this be disturbing? Fascinating? Could the meaning/interpretation of the performance be influenced? In this chapter, I analyze the use of odors, and odor perception, in the performance space. I examine through showcases how smell can be included in both the spaces of the audience and the actors, exploring the role of smell in modifying communication between them and resulting experiences.
