ABSTRACT

Extracting scent using a glass distillation process is not a new technology, and the process is most commonly used to obtain oil from rose petals in perfumery. This is a time-consuming method, and captures only a small amount of oil with a large amount of scented water; although it is an all-natural process, obtaining scent from almost anything – plants, herbs and fruits work exceptionally well. This chapter discusses two types of steam-distilling; these involve a hand-blown glass distillation kit and a DIY guide to distilling at home using kitchen equipment.
