ABSTRACT
Born in 1942, George Hallett began his photographic career in Cape Town in the 1960s. He emigrated to Britain, in 1970, and established himself as a leading figure in the European photographic community. After teaching briefly in Zimbabwe in the early 1980s, he travelled to the United States, lecturing at several universities and exhibiting widely. He returned to South Africa in the mid-1990s, first, on a photojournalistic assignment and, later, as the official photographer of the African National Congress (ANC) during the 1994 election campaign.
