Introduction

Energy modeling is a subject of widespread current interest among economists and other professionals concerned with problems of energy supply and demand. This interest has been stimulated by such factors as the apparent end of the era of abundant low-cost energy in the United States, the apparent need to depend on foreign sources for a much larger share of our energy supply, increasing governmental involvement in energy supply, and the rise of environmental quality concerns.
