ABSTRACT

In 1970, the National Petroleum Council, an industry advisory committee to the Secretary of the Interior, was asked to study the nation’s energy situation with particular reference to oil and gas. U.S. Energy Outlook: An Initial Appraisal 1971–1985 was issued in July 1971, followed by publication of associated task group reports. A summary report, U.S. Energy Outlook, was released in December 1972, followed by issuance of a more detailed third volume in February 1973. The NPC Appraisal is probably the most extensive analysis of the national energy situation ever made by an industry committee.
