ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book reflects on the issues that most concerned Ailsa McKay and the influences she has had on peers and policy makers in shaping theoretical perspectives and approaches to policy and practice in relation to women and the economy. It discusses how those interested in improving the position of women might build on her legacy, particularly in Scotland where her impact was most profound. The book explores three themes such as gender budgeting; Citizens Basic Income (CBI); and women, work and childcare represented Ailsa's main research interests. It contained the gender budgeting chapters which reminded us the need to find ways to make the theory and analysis stick not just in the rhetoric of equality, but in the planning and decision making processes concerning budgets and the economy.
