ABSTRACT

In 2008 Ruslan Ilyasov (46) was excited about joining Eldorado, the largest Russian electronics retailer, as its Human Resources Vice President. Since 2000, the company had been growing aggressively, benefitting from the booming Russian consumption market. The number of stores had skyrocketed from just 62 in 2000 to 1,064 at the beginning of 2007. Eldorado was worth more than USD 5 billion (Adelaja, 2007) in 2007 and was the only company not dependent on primary resources among the ten largest Russian private companies.
