ABSTRACT

As Chanda Kochcar, MD and CEO of ICICI Bank, India, received the ‘Asia Game Changer Award, 2015’ for ‘making a positive contribution to the future of Asia’, her modest, calm yet resplendent presence resonated with the audience when she acknowledged ICICI as a workplace without glass ceiling that facilitated her journey from a management trainee to the top. Kochhar is one of the distinguished Indian women to appear as ‘100 Most Influential People in the world’ in TIME magazine (Time, 2015) as also in Forbes’ list (https://techstory.in/indian-women-in-forbes/ Feb, 2016); which is astonishing given India’s gender gap index of 108 out of 145 countries in World Economic Forum Report, 2015. 1 Kochhar took tough decisions and calculated risks during the global financial crisis and her difficult choices were behind her when she declared that ICICI Bank stood no risk from the Greek financial crisis of 2015.
