ABSTRACT

This chapter uses Gross domestic product (GDP) and energy usage in terms of three industry divisions and adopts models and spatial analyses. It uses data from mainland China's provinces to research the spatial evolution of the contribution of China's industrial structure to regional energy efficiency. A distinction is made between two types of energy efficiency: energy economy efficiency and energy technology efficiency. To calculate the energy economy efficiency, energy consumption should use final energy consumption and total energy consumption to calculate energy technology efficiency. Learning from the model for contribution of regional industrial structure adjustment to economic growth and introducing energy efficiency, authors construct a model for the contribution of regional industrial structural adjustment to the improvement of energy efficiency. The chapter concludes that adjustment in industrial structure to improve energy efficiency has been limited along the east coast of China and the Sichuan basin.
