ABSTRACT
A consequent observation contrasts generic monadic with generic dyadic predication. The lion sleeps 18 hours a day speaks of something general: a species. Being general, the predication contains the idea of a manifold: exemplars of the species. However, the predication provides no basis for the distinction of one lion from another. Therefore it is an accident, in the light of what is thought according to this form, if there is more than one lion. The monadic predication includes the idea of a possible manifold, not the idea of an actual manifold.
