ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a brief overview for teachers of the urgency of several key global problems. It discusses some core actions teachers can take to enhance their readiness to get involved in justice movements, locally and beyond. The chapter evidences that life on earth today is facing problems unlike any other era, problems that have been known, ignored, and exacerbated by governments, businesses, and other institutional leaders for decades. Indigenous intellectual thinking explains that no matter what laws or priorities humans establish, the laws of nature are pre-eminent, which means that the physical processes of nature continue regardless of what beliefs or laws humans create. It learns how environmental issues are integrally related to other social movements. These actions all take strenuous effort but, if we take these actions seriously, they can lead to great personal development and, importantly, more democratic and egalitarian communities.
