ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines three distinct levels of analysis at which transitional justice can be evaluated: the micro, or individual level; the meso, or institutional level; and the macro, or national level. It aims to measure the success of transitional justice on all three levels of analysis. Measuring the success of transitional justice can occur at roughly three distinct levels of analysis, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. The most effective survey designs gather a range of data about participants, including gender, ethnicity, and location, along with their responses to detailed questions about transitional justice specifically. The micro or individual level, researchers evaluate transitional justice at the meso or institutional level by conducting institutional assessments of specific mechanisms themselves. The Transitional Justice Database Project, Post-Conflict Justice Dataset, and Transitional Justice Research Collaborative, are some of the most prominent examples of cross- national databases on multiple transitional justice mechanisms.
