ABSTRACT

This part introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the third part of this book. The part covers a broad range of issues pertaining to forensic practice with a focus on the impact of working in this field and provides theoretical models and practical strategies to support staff to effectively undertake their roles. It outlines the complexity of forensic work, focusing on the notion of workplace violence (WPV). It is recognised that WPV continues to increase within forensic settings, despite contrary trends in other workplaces. The part focuses solely on professional ethics, recognising that those practitioners working in forensic settings are often faced with novel, and challenging, ethical problems that they are required to solve. It considers the manner in which prison officers construct their identities within the prison context, further exploring the impact of this on how they exercise their roles and responsibilities.
