Therefore, a conclusion can be arrived at that the risk of vessel-source oil pollution in the Chinese sea areas has been increasing significantly since 1993. Under those circumstances, compensation for vessel-source oil pollution is becoming a key issue in protection of the interest of victims and in prevention of oil pollution. In the following section, the legal system of compensation for vessel-source oil pollution will be analysed from two aspects: (1) application of international conventions and (2) application of domestic legislation.
