ABSTRACT
Nevertheless, ports, taking advantage from their nodal positions, can actively contribute to the achievement of sustainability, being the centre of environment friendly transport systems. Keeping track of news section on GreenPort website, it can be observed that a number of initiatives and programmes to counteract the pollution problem are in progress now at numerous ports, in response to the environmental imperative. It is also observed that sustainable development has been established as a significant component of ports’ mission statements.
