ABSTRACT

During the period between the Franco-Prussian War and First World War, Sweden is under the influence of intellectual and political currents emanating from the German Empire. In Sweden, as in many other countries, this heritage was for a long time tucked out of view, since it had lost much of its splendour after the defeat of the "German model" in WWI. As of lately, interest begins to awake and influences from the German Historical School (GHS) and the different angles investigates its social gospel, not least to the impact on social scientists. That Bismarck's social reforms from the 1880s gave impetus to legislation in Sweden is generally agree upon. Sweden enters into a similar path as Germany, although one step behind. It is not difficult to understand that GHS ideas for a while exerted attraction among Swedish intellectuals as an alternative to British doctrines.
