ABSTRACT

Action research has had a long but somewhat subterranean presence in disciplines such as sociology, political science and management. However, the extent to which it is known to academic accounting is debatable. This chapter can be seen as an attempt to bridge this gap, fully aware that the chasm has its rationale and that few readers will be likely to ‘jump ship’ from more conventional pursuits. Perhaps the obverse presents a more interesting approach for the chapter – why don’t we have more action research in accounting?
