ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the influence of digital strategy on the economy and evaluates e-business strategy. It shows that the game changing challenge of digital business requires evolution, together with the adaptation of prior insight and theory. The chapter examines what firms need to do to cope with the dynamic, unstable and unpredictable digital environment. It discusses the influence of social media, niche social networks and Internet of Things and outlines how firms can better fit and apply their digital strategies. The chapter aims to provide and clarify some of the major digital strategy issues and illustrates strategic considerations and their operational application. The digital world has transformed how products and services are bought and sold. The information systems community has successfully pushed for the creation of a digital business strategy that raises information technologies strategy from the functional to the corporate level. Success in a digital environment is not solely about technology.
