ABSTRACT

This chapter highlights the constant emergence of new paradigms in society which impinge hugely on management. It discusses new formats and designs of the future organisation–from shape-shifters to permeable companies; new structures and the age of the multi-sided business perspective and platform; the emergence of future business colonies; the holographic organisation design and the corporate DNA. The chapter analyses the role of networks and new voices entering into the business ecosystem and examines the role of complexity theory in business and strategic ability. It also focuses on permeable companies, a new outlook for strategic thinking, the age of the one-sided business, corporate "stretching" and the future of work environments. Strategic thinking is a process that defines the manner in which people think about, assess, view, and create the future for themselves and others. Strategic agility is the thing that organisations need to mobilise operations to capitalise on opportunities, even with time pressure and incomplete data.
