ABSTRACT

Psychotherapists and their clients are becoming ever more connected on the internet and social media. When we speak of social media, we are referring to websites, mobile technology, and applications (“apps”) that allow users to create and share content and participate in social networking. We typically think of popular sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram as major venues for social networking. However there are countless sites that are used by individuals and businesses. Some people consider exchanging email within Google or Yahoo groups or other lists maintained by their professional psychotherapy or counseling association to be a form of social media.
