ABSTRACT
Human origins, the origins which make people feel that they are inexplicable, are always shrouded in silence and deep shadows. The history of humanity began with myths, and it is the myth of the Spinners in particular that still links those firmly to the most fertile and dynamic images in their collective imagination. Since the time of the divine Spinners, women have been represented by the entire length of the thread, the thread of desire. If Penelope took Helen's defence, it was to weave appeals that would preserve the ambiguity of her attitude that would divert attention from her desires. From the outset, the myth of the Spinners presents Woman as both desiring and desired. Her body, in labour, as it bends over its work, is both what causes desire and what attracts desire, the second element arising as a result of the first.
