ABSTRACT

Second, when testing for the complete measurement structure of both models (mother and father) they showed an acceptable to good fit (model with maternal parenting: x2 ¼ 89.640, df ¼ 78, p ¼ .173; x2/df ¼ 1.149; RMSEA ¼ .026 (CI ¼ .000-.048); CFI ¼ .991; model with paternal parenting: x2 ¼ 129.919, df ¼ 78, p , .001; x2/df ¼ 1.666; RMSEA ¼ .056 (CI ¼ .038-.072); CFI ¼ .968). In those models, the link between parental supervision and perceived academic competence of the early adolescents was positive (model for mothers: r ¼ .23, p ¼ .006, one-tailed; model for fathers: r ¼ .19, p ¼ .008, onetailed), whereas the correlation between parental authoritarian control and the early adolescents’ perceived academic competence was found to be negative (model for mothers: r ¼ 2 .16, p ¼ .026, one-tailed; model for fathers: r ¼ 2 .13, p ¼ .052, one-tailed).
