ABSTRACT

The rise of the political use of social media in France has occurred in a climate of strong opposition to political leaders and traditional parties. The chapter argues, the spaces of expression are often used for the purposes of polemic that is, to formulate political criticism, on at least three levels: to destabilise a political opponent for tactical and ideological reasons; to criticise as a whole the politicians and the partisans in play; and to associate other players in the electoral game with this criticism of politics the media and journalists. Within a highly critical political context, consider the Twitter network to be home to the expression of a counter public sphere. The powerful device for provoking controversy on social media is indignation.Twitter is already an integrated part of the political and electoral repertoire. The candidates and their teams use it and journalists cover some events with it.
