ABSTRACT

Theories of globalization focused initially on economic issues before engaging more broadly with questions around culture and the media and later with the political dimensions of global governance, cosmopolitanism and transnational citizenship. A central feature of the global economy in the context of intensified relations is that it is informational. The central activities of production, consumption and circulation, as well as their components are organized on a global scale, either directly or through a network of connections between different economic agents operating at national and supranational levels. In terms of the way business is done in a globalized context, there are a number of significant changes that all impact on translation in different ways. The exponential increase in advertising budgets and the importance of the economics of attention in the digital age has resulted in the localization industry emerging as a key constituent part of contemporary globalized business practices.
