ABSTRACT

The chapter offers a brief survey of the few references to epigraphical material in New Testament writings (the gospels and the Book of Acts) and samples of early Christian inscriptions and graffiti, including funeral texts, representations of Christian symbols, and some more cryptic inscriptions that have puzzled scholars till this day (the Abercius inscription, the so-called ROTAS/SATOR, and the Simon Magus inscription mentioned by Justin Martyr).
