ABSTRACT

Unlike most of the other chapters in this book, our title – Reggio Emilia – refers to a place, not to a theorist or a theory. Reggio Emilia is a small city in the north of Italy, but the name of Reggio has become synonymous with the best in early childhood education. To quote the Reggio website:

The Reggio Emilia Approach is an educational philosophy based on the image of the child, and of human beings, as possessing strong potentials for development and as a subject of rights who learns and grows in the relationships with others.
