ABSTRACT
One aspect that marks out the contribution of Rachel and Margaret McMillan to the field of early childhood education is the way in which they combined the development of practical responses to the needs of young children and their mothers, with political lobbying to create change beyond those places where they themselves had an active presence. For this reason, their work deserves some consideration in relation to today’s global early childhood education contexts.
