ABSTRACT
The therapeutic needs of older, gay men, who live at the intersection of ageism and homo-
phobia, have gained increasing attention during the past decades (e.g., Friend, 1987; Frost
1997; McDougall, 1994). The recognition that therapists must be culturally competent,
coupled with a growing interest in the needs of the ageing population, has contributed to
this shift (Garnets & Kimmel, 2003; Shannon & Woods, 1991).
