ABSTRACT

Daoism is one of the great indigenous philosophical traditions in Chinese communities, which encompasses philosophical and/or religious teachings and practices. Daoist teachings acknowledge that human beings are living in a world with constant changes, which may bring pain and suffering in life. Daoism is an ancient Chinese tradition. Its primary tenets were recorded in Dao De fing and were considered as the most influential classic texts in Daoist teaching and philosophy. Dao, as interpreted and embedded with rich connotations, represents the way of nature and the universal laws. Along with the notion of Wuwei and the water metaphor, Daoist teachings take much notice of the concepts of naturalness and simplicity. Dynamic balancing in life is considered as the unification of two opposite but complementary forces, namely Yin and Yang. Dynamic balancing highlights the transformational nature of Yin and Yang rather than being a comparison between polar opposites.
