ABSTRACT

Improvisation is frequently used by professional composers as an effective technique for generating musical ideas for subsequent composing. For children however, this approach to composing can be limited by their ability to remember their improvisations or to ‘notate’ them. This means it is difficult for them to access them at a later date as part of a conscious composing strategy/process. Using MIROR can support these processes and introduce the children to creative strategies for varying their musical ideas.
