ABSTRACT

This chapter captures, identifies and discusses the phases, which collectively comprise a structured project management approach to the processes and are integral to the overall design and systems integration processes. It outlines and identifies the many important factors and processes that play important roles in the successful design and implementation of a system or systems in a broadcast plant. The chapter discusses the role and contribution that external professionals and consultants such as architects, nonbroadcast engineers, subject matter experts and system integrators can have in the process. It explores the component subsystems include hardware, software and workflow processes. The system integration process encompasses many different activities, which can be summarized by the following phases: High-level planning, Conceptual design, Detailed design and documentation, Equipment procurement, Construction and installation, Configuration and testing and Training and support. The chapter highlights the pressure often put on the chief engineer to manage and see the project through while continuing to run his/her own department.
