ABSTRACT

This chapter explores some of the capabilities, challenges, and components that are part of the rapidly changing camera landscape. It discusses the 4K resolution standard from operational, evolutionary, and human visual system vantages. The challenge in creating a meaningful chapter on television camera systems is recognizing the fundamental change that has taken place. The purpose of the standards is to ensure that camera systems and other video equipment can work together; many cameras, however, tend to follow the standards internally from the beginning of the chain to simplify signal processing. Color difference signals are needed with the luminance in order to produce a color picture. Imaging chips comprise an array of photoreceptors or photosites, each converting photons into an electrical charge. The imaging array accumulates charge during the active field or frame period; the charge is then moved laterally to the vertical transfer registers.
