ABSTRACT

The National Radio Systems Committee (NRSC) is jointly sponsored by the National Association of Broadcasters and the Consumer Technology Association. The two NRSC AM radio broadcasting standards, first released in 1987 and 1988, cover recommended broadcast audio parameters and transmission systems. The NRSC "United States Radio Broadcast Data System (RBDS) Standard" was released by the NRSC's RBDS Subcommittee in January 1993. The NRSC-G301 Guideline, "Creation and Distribution Procedures for Audio Program Metadata" was published in April 2013. The NRSC provides a forum for the broadcasting and receiver manufacturing industries to work together toward solutions to common issues and problems in radio broadcast systems. Analog amplitude modulated and frequency modulated broadcasting standards are both long established and well developed across Europe, with a broad degree of similarity across the continent. The European broadcast radio sector is remarkably diverse, in terms of the types of services broadcast, as well as the transmission systems and frequencies used to deliver them.
