ABSTRACT

ALTHOUGH DESIGN MANAGEMENT has existed both as a discipline and a fi eld of knowledge since the 1960s it is only since the turn of the twenty-fi rst century that design management has been accepted as a means of delivering value to construction clients. Changes in procurement routes, shifting responsibility for design, rapid developments in digital technologies and ever more demanding clients have combined to emphasize the need to better manage design. This applies to all aspects of design, ranging from the management of designers and design information to design tools, technologies and processes.
