Infl uences on substance use cessation during pregnancy: an exploratory study of women on probation and parole

The last several decades saw a substantial increase in women under community supervision – a more substantial increase than that for men (Glaze & Bonczar, 2009; Glaze & Parks, 2012). In 2010, there were 712,084 women on probation and 103,374 on parole (Glaze & Parks, 2012). While these numbers have decreased slightly since 2009, women now constitute a greater proportion of the population than in previous decades (Maruschak & Parks, 2012).
