ABSTRACT
This chapter describes how trust and control work as governance mechanisms in projects. We first describe trust and the interaction of person trust and system trust in governance. Then we describe the role of control and its role in projects. Finally we describe the different mixes of trust and control found in the four governance paradigms. The chapter shows that popular governance mechanisms of trust and control regulate different aspects of governance and therefore are not mutually substitutable in the governance of projects as temporary organizations.
