ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book helps to manage increasing complexity and implementation challenges of major information and communication technology (ICT) initiatives. It was divided into five main themes: (i) theories of IT innovations in government, (ii) emerging technologies and their applications in government, (iii) technology-driven collaboration between citizens and government, (iv) advancement of democratic accountability and public values through technology, and (v) advancement of public service through technological innovations. The book also provides thoughts and recommendations on the opportunities and future of information technology innovations in government. It also highlights importance of understanding the collaborators in emerging practice of coproduction of government services and information. The book also illustrates the need for effective organizational and institutional design. The cases of China and South Korea in developing their e-government systems underscore both importance of political support as well as synergistic relationship between e-government and administrative reform.
