ABSTRACT

This section presents our main empirical analysis, which makes use elasticity to gauge the

responsiveness of employment to the change in output and wage.

As for the method, first, for the industry classification, labor-intensive industries

include ‘two digit’ ISIC (International Standard Industrial Classification) codes 32, 33

and 39; resource-based industries comprise ISIC codes 31, 34 and 35; and capital-inten-

sive industries cover ISIC codes 3638. The labor-intensive industries are textiles, garments and footwear; wood products and furniture; and miscellaneous manufactures. The

resource-based are food and related products; paper products; and chemical, rubber and

plastic products. The capital-intensive group includes non-metallic minerals; steel

products; and metal and machine goods, electronics and autos.
