ABSTRACT
Drawing on perspectives from a variety of different disciplines, this chapter introduces the theoretical framework(s) that underlie our understanding of gender-based violence including: the socio-ecological model; intersectionality; and the multi-systems life-course perspective. The chapter then discusses the society-wide approach required to prevent gender-based violence, examining examples of research and practice drawn from around the globe. The chapter ends by introducing the other chapters in the book.
