ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses why tackling gender-based violence is beneficial to employers and provides details of an asset-based approach which was explored in two organisations in rural Victoria, Australia. Surveys of attitudes pertaining to gender equity not only formed baseline data for evaluation, but provided opportunities for staff inputs in the development of organisation-specific gender equity plans. Follow-up surveys, completed shortly after commencement of the implementation of these plans, showed promising changes towards greater gender equity, but these changes were not statistically significant and it is suggested that the follow-up data was collected too early, before the action plans had substantial impact.
